This quiet life would not last for long as quickly the American public elected him to become the nation’s first President. After victory and liberty was achieved, Washington vowed to retire and live a quiet life. Washington’s success in the Revolutionary War was not found simply in winning battles, but was found in his ability to keep the colonial army together as they endured all kinds of opposition. George Washington’s great military success would pave the way for him to become the commander in chief of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Shortly after his own successes, the French and Indian war began giving Washington an introduction into leadership as he became commander of the Virginia Militia and eventually would be in charge of all Virginia’s militia forces. As an adult, Washington would become a very successful surveyor and would eventually acquire land of his own. Although little is known about George Washington’s early life, it’s clear that he had no college education and likely spent his younger years helping his mother handle the family farm when his father, Augustine, passed away. George Washington was born on Februin Westmoreland County, Virginia to Augustine and Mary Ball Washington. Benjamin Franklin’s vast range of accomplishments and initiations makes him an extremely valuable part of our founding and history. He was a central part of the committee to draft the Declaration of Independence, and would also lay the groundwork for the Articles of Confederation through his proposal of the Albany Plan. Franklins influence in politics was even more impressive. In addition to all these initiations that Ben started, he was extremely influential in the development of the colonial postal system.
Ben Franklin was able to introduce a library, fire company, hospital, police patrol, militia, hospital, and college to the state of Pennsylvania, with a heavy focus in Philadelphia. This success allowed him to shift his focus from business to civic affairs.īenjamin Franklin became a key component of early life in the colonies. Ben eventually began his own printing shop in Philadelphia that would become extremely successful. This move would eventually lead him to his wife, Deborah Read. Here, he would develop a blossoming love and dedication for the city. Years later, he would journey to Philadelphia to become a printer.
